Performing Ensembles
MCO is pleased to accommodate six performing ensembles in each location: five choirs and a symphony orchestra. Adult participants in the choirs and orchestras are volunteers committed to the organization and its purpose. All ensembles perform in concert at the end of each semester in the finest concert halls in the community.
Young Singers Chorus
Age 4–1st grade (must be age 4 by the first rehearsal of the semester)
An opportunity for children to enjoy the musical and social experience of singing in a quality performance ensemble with others who have similar interests and values.
No audition required.
Weekly rehearsals on Monday or Thursday afternoons (depending on the locale); performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire includes music appropriate for the education of young children, including sacred children’s songs, hymns, and folk songs.
The curriculum is designed to introduce young children to the basic concepts of music, including rhythm, melody, basic music literacy, and proper singing technique.
Children’s Chorus
2nd–5th grades
An opportunity for children to enjoy the musical and social experience of singing in a quality performance ensemble with others who have similar interests and values.
No audition required.
Weekly rehearsals on Monday or Thursday afternoons (depending on the locale); performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire includes choral literature appropriate for children’s choirs, including sacred children’s songs, hymns, and folk songs.
A curriculum designed to introduce young children to the basic concepts of music, including rhythm, melody, basic music literacy, and proper singing technique.
Youth Chorus
6th–8th grades
An opportunity for youth of the community to enjoy the musical and social experience of singing in a quality performance ensemble with others who have similar interests and values.
No audition required.
Weekly rehearsals on Monday or Thursday afternoons (depending on the locale); performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire drawn from choral literature appropriate for youth choirs, including sacred songs and hymns.
A curriculum designed to teach students the rudiments of music history, basic music theory (including reading music), and singing in multiple parts as part of a choral ensemble.
Youth Chorus also participates in the advanced youth ensemble Millennial Chorus as part of the regular weekly rehearsal.
Concert Choir
9th–12th grades
An opportunity for the youth of the community to enjoy the musical and social experience of singing in a quality performance ensemble with others who have similar interests and values.
No audition required.
Weekly rehearsals on Monday or Thursday afternoons (depending on the locale); performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire drawn from choral literature appropriate for high school-aged choirs, including sacred songs and hymns.
A curriculum designed to teach students the rudiments of music history, basic music theory (including reading music), and singing in multiple parts as part of a choral ensemble.
Concert Choir women begin rehearsal earlier than Concert Choir men to participate in the advanced youth ensemble Millennial Chorus.
Grand Chorus
Advanced adult singers ages 18 and up
Audition required.
Weekly rehearsals on Monday or Thursday evenings (depending on the locale); performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire includes major choral/orchestral works and repertory choral literature as well as hymns and anthems arranged for choir and orchestra.
Symphony Orchestra
Accomplished instrumentalists
Volunteer (unpaid) participation.
Audition required.
Rehearsals as scheduled; performances at concerts (times, locations, and general calendar are available on each locale’s Join Us page).
Repertoire includes major choral/orchestral works and repertory symphonic literature as well as hymns and anthems arranged for choir and orchestra.
No participation fee. Procure concert black attire on your own.
